🇺🇸 eSIM for USA travel: prices, networks and our pick

US roaming is famously expensive and local SIM shops ask for ID and add taxes. A travel eSIM bought at home is the cleanest way to stay connected from JFK to Yosemite.

Which US networks do eSIMs run on?

T-Mobile offers the best tourist value — strong cities and interstates, good 5G. Verizon wins in remote areas (National parks, rural west). AT&T sits in between. Check the underlying network on the provider's plan page — for a southwest road trip, Verizon-based plans are worth the premium; for city hopping, T-Mobile-based plans are usually enough.

USA-specific tip: national parks (Yellowstone, large parts of the Grand Canyon) have no coverage on any network — download offline maps. Between towns along the interstates, signal is generally fine.

FAQ

Do I get a US phone number?

Travel eSIMs are data-only. US forms and services that require a US number are rare — most apps accept email verification; hotel/concierge calls can be made over Wi-Fi calling from your home SIM.

Will my eSIM work in Canada or Mexico too?

Only on North America regional plans — Airalo and others sell US+Canada+Mexico packs that cost little more than US-only ones. Worth it for any cross-border itinerary.

Is 5G included?

On T-Mobile-based plans, 5G is usually included at no extra cost; on some Verizon/AT&T-based plans it can be LTE-only. Plan details state which.
