🇪🇺 Best eSIM for Europe: one plan, many borders

Europe is the poster child for regional eSIMs: one plan covers 39+ countries — no swapping SIMs between Paris, Rome and Prague. What matters is the fine print: which countries, what fair use, what price per GB.

What a "Europe" plan actually includes

Regional plans typically cover the EU plus the EEA and friends — think 39+ countries from Portugal to Finland. But three names need checking every time:

  • United Kingdom — usually included in travel eSIM regional plans (unlike EU-carrier free roaming); verify anyway.
  • Switzerland & Norway — non-EU but almost always included by travel eSIMs.
  • Türkiye — the classic exclusion. Some regional plans include it, some don't. If Istanbul or Antalya is on your route, pick a plan that lists Turkey explicitly (or see our Türkiye guide).

Fair-use reality: on regional unlimited plans (and some big-GB plans) providers apply fair-use throttling — full speed up to a daily cap, then reduced. For 2 weeks of maps + socials + video calls, 10 GB is usually plenty; road-trippers streaming Netflix nightly should consider 20 GB or unlimited.

How to install

Install at home, land anywhere in the region, toggle the eSIM line on — the plan picks the strongest local partner network (Orange, Vodafone, Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom etc.) automatically. Full walkthrough: How to install an eSIM.

FAQ

Will my phone switch networks at each border?

Yes, automatically — that's the point of the regional plan. No action needed when crossing from France to Italy to Croatia.

Is speed lower on regional plans than local ones?

You ride the same local networks. Real-world speeds are similar; the only difference is fair-use policy on some plans.

Can I top up if I run out mid-trip?

Yes — all eight providers we track support in-app top-ups, and most let you buy a fresh package without reinstalling anything.
